Infectious Hate: Insanity begins

Infectious Hate is a death/groove metal band that was formed in France in 2009. This five-man band are very impressive and their debut “Insanity Begins” is one of the best EP’s that has emerged out of the French metal underground since the last few years.
There were vibes of Slipknot and Pantera all through this album but their six tracks are much more brutal and relentless. The title track opens up the chasms of a gritty, seedy soundscape and it keeps the listener hooked. The guttural vocals from John are some of the best things I’ve heard this year and the hooks are fast and tight. “No More” is the standout track on this EP. It’s riffy, choppy, groovy and is very accessible. “Alive” is an interlude of sorts. The riffs slow down a bit and the vocals are not as aggressive as on the other tracks but that’s just as well. “Dead end” dials up the tempo by several notches. This is a scorching, true-blue death metal gem and Remi’s bass rumble is warbly, spiky, and perfectly complements the tribal drumming by Perello.
The final half of the EP begins with “Corroded by Time”. The riffs slide in and slide out, the drums shift away from the centerstage and the vocals slip a few octaves down and the track has a slow-burn feel to it. This penultimate track is grim and brutal. The EP has a killer finisher in “Sins”, which goes nuts at times and the tempo is very addictive. It has some really bone crunching moments and I was on the edge all the way through.
Overall, this is an EP that I will keep spinning again and again. Lots of (heavier) Pantera vibes on this album. I had a rollicking time listening to this album and I am eagerly anticipating the full-length EP. Infectious Hate have a long road ahead of them, but if this EP is anything to go by the promise this band holds, then they will be making some really good noise for a long, long time to come.
